British Pullman - Steam Hauled Excursions 2011

The hot springs first attracted the Romans to build the spa of Aqua Sulis, and the remains of the baths and other archaeological finds can be seen here. In Saxon times, King Offa founded an abbey at Bath, where King Edgar was crowned in 973. Bath's fashionable heyday came in the 18th century, when Beau Nash regulated the bathing and constructed the assembly rooms and theatres. Today, Bath is Britain's best preserved Georgian city.

The Roman Baths and Pump Room are one of the best preserved Roman sites north of the Alps, where hot mineral water rises from a spring at a temperature of 46°C. Explore the beauty of the Ancient Roman's architecture and art, and don't forget to sample the spa water from the Spa Fountain in the Grand Pump Room.

On arrival at Bath you will be met by guides who will accompany you on a coach tour of this delightful city taking in the famous Roman Baths and Pump Room. There will be a little free time for you to explore Bath on your own or, alternatively, you may prefer to spend the whole time in Bath at your leisure. You are asked to make your own way back to the station (approximately 10 minute walk). On your return journey to London Victoria, after a glass of champagne, you will be served a four course supper with half a bottle of wine.

Explore at your leisure and take time to visit the striking Great Hall with its magnificent ceiling, the beautiful State Rooms, 55 metre Long Library with magnificent marble sculptures and varied gardens, water terraces, butterfly house and arboretum.

Bellini is served on the outward journey. On arrival at Oxford you will be met by guides who will accompany you on the coach transfer to Blenheim Palace. At Blenheim Palace, after a guided tour (approximately one hour) you are free to explore the palace and grounds at your leisure. You are then transferred by coach to rejoin the British Pullman. A glass of chilled champagne is served as soon as you board the train. This is followed by a three course dinner accompanied by half a bottle of wine.

This Renaissance-style château, built in 1874, is the creation of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. Housing some of the finest examples of French 18th century decorative arts, the manor's furniture and porcelain collection rival New York's Metropolitan Museum and Paris' Louvre in terms of importance. The manor is further enhanced by a fine collection of paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds and the Dutch masters. Delightful gardens perfect the French experience.

Enjoy a Brunch with Bellini on outward journey. On arrival at Oxford station you are met by your guide who escorts you on the 45 minute coach transfer to Waddesdon Manor. Here you will be taken on a tour of the Waddesdon Manor cellars by a wine guide who explains about the Rothschild's wine-making heritage and the contents of the 15,000 bottles stored in the vaults. The tour concludes with an opportunity to taste two wines from Rothschild family vineyards. You then have time at leisure to explore the house and grounds before the coach transfer back to Oxford where you re-board the British Pullman. A three course dinner with champagne and half a bottle of wine is served during your return journey to London.
