The pool at Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice

★★★★★ L

Belmond Hotel Cipriani

Five Star Deluxe

The Cipriani is, by common consent, the finest hotel in Venice. Situated on the tip of Giudecca Island, it is reached by private launch from San Marco in four minutes and that small separation from the city gives it a quality of quiet that no hotel in the main part of Venice can match. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms and suites exceptional, and the service is the kind that is genuinely hard to find anywhere. The foremost suite in the hotel, and arguably in the whole of Venice, is the Palladio Suite, a duplex with a private garden and views across to San Marco.

The restaurants serve food of the highest quality, with much of the produce drawn from the kitchen garden and from the Venetian lagoon islands. The Casanova Wellness Centre and the outdoor swimming pool, heated and open to the lagoon, complete a picture of a hotel that sets the standard not just in Venice but in Italy as a whole. If you are travelling on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, arriving here by private launch is the right way to begin or end the experience.

Danieli, A Four Seasons Hotel, Venice

★★★★★ L

Danieli, A Four Seasons Hotel

Five Star Deluxe

One of the most storied addresses in Venice, the Hotel Danieli has occupied its position on the Riva degli Schiavoni, just steps from Piazza San Marco, since the 14th century. The property spans three interconnected palaces, the oldest of which is the 14th-century Palazzo Dandolo, and its four-storey internal atrium with pink marble columns and gilded staircase is one of the most dramatic hotel interiors in the world. Past guests have included Charles Dickens, George Sand, Richard Wagner and Honoré de Balzac.

Following an extensive restoration led by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, the hotel reopens in August 2026 under Four Seasons management. The renovation has preserved the building's historic fabric while introducing new interiors featuring Murano glass chandeliers, terrazzo floors and Venetian artistry throughout. The hotel offers 168 rooms and 52 suites, with the Terrazza Danieli restaurant offering lagoon views. The Danieli Spa, offering three treatment rooms, opens in late 2026.

Please note: Danieli, A Four Seasons Hotel opens on 26 August 2026 following restoration. Please call us to confirm availability for your preferred travel dates.
The Gritti Palace, Venice

★★★★★ L

The Gritti Palace

Five Star Deluxe

The Gritti Palace stands directly on the Grand Canal between the Accademia Bridge and San Marco, in one of the most prestigious positions in Venice. Built in 1475 as the private residence of Doge Andrea Gritti, it has been a hotel since 1895 and one of the most celebrated in the world for much of that time. Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill and Somerset Maugham were among its most devoted guests.

Following a meticulous restoration completed in 2013, the hotel offers rooms and suites that have been individually designed to showcase its historic collections of Venetian craftsmanship. The Club del Doge Restaurant is among the best in the city, and the Grand Canal Terrace, with its views across the water to the Basilica della Salute, is one of the finest outdoor dining settings in Venice. The Gritti's Epicurean School, offering Venetian cooking classes, is an added attraction for guests who want to take something of the city's food culture home with them.

Ca' Sagredo Hotel, Venice

★★★★★ L

Ca' Sagredo Hotel

Five Star Deluxe

The Ca' Sagredo occupies a 15th-century Gothic palace on the Grand Canal close to the Rialto Bridge, in one of the finest positions of any hotel in Venice. The building itself is classified as a National Monument, its exceptional collection of Venetian paintings, sculptures and antique furniture representing one of the most significant private art collections in the city. A ceiling fresco in the main stairwell by Giambattista Tiepolo is among the highlights.

The 42 rooms and suites are individually decorated to reflect the different artistic periods represented in the palace's collection, each one feeling genuinely different from the others. Views are either across the Grand Canal or over the rooftops and bell towers of the city. The hotel's restaurant L'Alcova uses produce from the lagoon islands and maintains the quality expected of its surroundings.

Baglioni Hotel Luna, Venice

★★★★★ L

Baglioni Hotel Luna

Five Star Deluxe

The Baglioni Hotel Luna is the oldest hotel in Venice, its origins traced to the 12th century when the building served as a Crusaders' lodge before their departure for the Holy Land. It stands a short walk from Piazza San Marco, with views across the lagoon from its upper floors and a setting that combines proximity to the main sights with the intimate character of an aristocratic Venetian palace.

The 104 rooms and suites are decorated in a rich Venetian style, with original frescoes in the principal public rooms and the kind of detailing that comes from centuries of careful stewardship of a historic building. The restaurant specialises in Venetian cooking and the hotel's position, moments from both the Piazza and the vaporetto stops, makes it one of the most practical as well as one of the most beautiful addresses in the city.

The Venice Venice Hotel, Cannaregio

★★★★★

The Venice Venice Hotel

Five Star

Situated in the Cannaregio district, a short walk from the Rialto Bridge, The Venice Venice Hotel is a five-star property that offers a quieter and more residential experience of Venice than the hotels immediately around San Marco. Cannaregio is one of the most authentic of the city's sestieri, its fondamente and narrow calli still largely the domain of Venetians rather than tourists, and staying here gives a rather different sense of the city from that offered by the grand canal palaces further south.

The hotel has 43 rooms, many with balconies and city views. The Venice MArt restaurant serves international cuisine, and the hotel has a spa, fitness centre and lounge bar. The hotel's position in Cannaregio gives easy access to the Ca' d'Oro, the Jewish Ghetto and the northern lagoon, as well as being a straightforward walk to the Rialto and San Marco.

Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal, Venice

★★★★

Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal

Four Star

The Hotel Monaco occupies an excellent position overlooking the Grand Canal, adjacent to Ca' Giustinian, the historic headquarters of the Venice Biennale. The hotel is a short walk from Piazza San Marco and enjoys views of both the Basilica della Salute and the island of San Giorgio Maggiore from its canal-facing rooms and terrace.

The 100 rooms are furnished in Venetian style, and the Grand Canal Restaurant combines traditional and contemporary Venetian cooking, with fresh seafood and vegetables from the lagoon islands at its centre. The hotel balances a central location with the warmth of a smaller property and is a consistently good choice for those combining a Venice stay with the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

Londra Palace Hotel, Venice

★★★★

Hotel Londra Palace

Four Star

The Londra Palace faces the lagoon on the Riva degli Schiavoni, the wide promenade that runs along the waterfront east of San Marco, and has been a gathering place for artists, writers and travellers since 1853. Tchaikovsky wrote his Fourth Symphony here in 1877. The 53 rooms are individually decorated in Biedermeier style, with elegant upholstery, brocades and marble bathrooms, each one distinct from the others.

Rooms face either the lagoon and the island of San Giorgio Maggiore or the rooftops and bell towers of the historic centre. The Do Leoni restaurant, with its terrace overlooking the Riva, is one of the pleasanter places to eat in this part of the city, and watching the water traffic of the lagoon from a waterfront table is one of the characteristic experiences of a stay in Venice.

Sina Palazzo Sant'Angelo, Venice

★★★★

Sina Palazzo Sant'Angelo

Four Star

The Palazzo Sant'Angelo is situated directly on the Grand Canal between the Rialto Bridge and San Marco, in the heart of the city. The palace itself is a genuinely aristocratic building: the sitting room has an original Palladian floor, and the public rooms are enriched with antique wood panelling and architectural detail of a building that has been significant for several hundred years.

The rooms and suites have silk wall coverings, ornate Venetian furniture and flowing fabrics in rich colours, and the bar and lounge enjoy direct views of gondolas on the Grand Canal. It is a more intimate choice than some of the larger properties on the canal, and its position gives guests access by water taxi directly from the hotel's own dock.

American Dinesen Hotel, Venice

★★★★

American Dinesen Hotel

Four Star

The American Dinesen is in the Dorsoduro district, close to the Accademia gallery, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Grand Canal. Dorsoduro is one of the most pleasant areas of Venice to stay in, residential in character and home to some of the best restaurants and bacari in the city, while being a short walk from all the principal sights.

The rooms are decorated with damask and fine textiles in a style that reflects the neighbourhood's artistic character, and the second-floor house terrace is a good place to spend a summer evening. The hotel's position near the Accademia means it is convenient for guests who want to spend time in the southern part of Venice as well as those heading to and from Santa Lucia station.

Hotel Ca' Maria Adele, Venice

★★★★

Hotel Ca' Maria Adele

Four Star

The Ca' Maria Adele is a small and intensely Venetian hotel in the Dorsoduro district, situated alongside the Salute Church with views across to the entrance of the Grand Canal. With only 12 rooms, it is one of the most intimate hotels in Venice, and the attention to detail in both decoration and service reflects that scale.

The rooms are decorated with flock wallpaper, Murano chandeliers and heavy damask fabrics in colours that range from deep crimson to midnight blue, giving the hotel a romantic and theatrical character that is well suited to the city. The hotel has a breakfast room, lounge and terrace, and its position in Dorsoduro is one of the quietest and most attractive in Venice, close to the main galleries and a short walk from both the Accademia vaporetto stop and the Zattere waterfront.

The renovated hotel will offer just over 110 rooms, with more than half being signature suites and a presidential suite.
