The Cipriani is, by common consent, the finest hotel in Venice. Situated on the tip of Giudecca Island, it is reached by private launch from San Marco in four minutes and that small separation from the city gives it a quality of quiet that no hotel in the main part of Venice can match. One of the most storied addresses in Venice, the Hotel Danieli has occupied its position on the Riva degli Schiavoni, just steps from Piazza San Marco, since the 14th century. The property spans three interconnected palaces, the oldest of which is the 14th-century Palazzo Dandolo, and its four-storey internal atrium with pink marble columns and gilded staircase is one of the most dramatic hotel interiors in the world. Past guests have included Charles Dickens, George Sand, Richard Wagner and Honoré de Balzac.

Following an extensive restoration led by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, the hotel reopens in August 2026 under Four Seasons management. The renovation has preserved the building's historic fabric while introducing new interiors featuring Murano glass chandeliers, terrazzo floors and Venetian artistry throughout. The hotel offers 168 rooms and 52 suites, with the Terrazza Danieli restaurant offering lagoon views. The Danieli Spa, offering three treatment rooms, opens in late 2026.

The Gritti Palace stands directly on the Grand Canal between the Accademia Bridge and San Marco, in one of the most prestigious positions in Venice. Built in 1475 as the private residence of Doge Andrea Gritti, it has been a hotel since 1895 and one of the most celebrated in the world for much of that time. Cannaregio is one of the most authentic of the city's sestieri, its fondamente and narrow calli still largely the domain of Venetians rather than tourists, and staying here gives a rather different sense of the city from that offered by the grand canal palaces further south.

The hotel has 43 rooms, many with balconies and city views. The Venice MArt restaurant serves international cuisine, and the hotel has a spa, fitness centre and lounge bar. The hotel's position in Cannaregio gives easy access to the Ca' d'Oro, the Jewish Ghetto and the northern lagoon, as well as being a straightforward walk to the Rialto and San Marco.

The 53 rooms are individually decorated in Biedermeier style, with elegant upholstery, brocades and marble bathrooms, each one distinct from the others.

Rooms face either the lagoon and the island of San Giorgio Maggiore or the rooftops and bell towers of the historic centre. The Do Leoni restaurant, with its terrace overlooking the Riva, is one of the pleasanter places to eat in this part of the city, and watching the water traffic of the lagoon from a waterfront table is one of the characteristic experiences of a stay in Venice.

The Palazzo Sant'Angelo is situated directly on the Grand Canal between the Rialto Bridge and San Marco, in the heart of the city. The palace itself is a genuinely aristocratic building: the sitting room has an original Palladian floor, and the public rooms are enriched with antique wood panelling and architectural detail of a building that has been significant for several hundred years.

The rooms and suites have silk wall coverings, ornate Venetian furniture and flowing fabrics in rich colours, and the bar and lounge enjoy direct views of gondolas on the Grand Canal. It is a more intimate choice than some of the larger properties on the canal, and its position gives guests access by water taxi directly from the hotel's own dock.

Dorsoduro is one of the most pleasant areas of Venice to stay in, residential in character and home to some of the best restaurants and bacari in the city, while being a short walk from all the principal sights.

The rooms are decorated with damask and fine textiles in a style that reflects the neighbourhood's artistic character, and the second-floor house terrace is a good place to spend a summer evening. The hotel's position near the Accademia means it is convenient for guests who want to spend time in the southern part of Venice as well as those heading to and from Santa Lucia station.

The rooms are decorated with flock wallpaper, Murano chandeliers and heavy damask fabrics in colours that range from deep crimson to midnight blue, giving the hotel a romantic and theatrical character that is well suited to the city. The hotel has a breakfast room, lounge and terrace, and its position in Dorsoduro is one of the quietest and most attractive in Venice, close to the main galleries and a short walk from both the Accademia vaporetto stop and the Zattere waterfront.

The Bauer Hotel is one of the great addresses of Venice, occupying a landmark position on the Grand Canal steps from Piazza San Marco. The building dates from 1880 and the hotel has been one of the most celebrated in the city for much of its existence. It closed in November 2022 for an extensive renovation and is reopening under Rosewood Hotels management.

The renovated hotel will offer just over 110 rooms, with more than half being signature suites and a presidential suite. The design, led by Venice-based architect Alberto Torsello and interior design group BAR Studio, integrates many elements of the historic structure into a new composition that places sustainability alongside the building's Venetian heritage. A casual restaurant and wine bar on the ground floor, a refined Venetian restaurant and a rooftop bar with a traditional Venetian Altana complete the offer.
