Krakow, the enchanting former capital of Poland, and the recently restored baroque city of Dresden are your contrasting destinations on this new and exclusive itinerary. Blending travel from a bygone age with two major European cultural showpieces, this will be a truly memorable journey. Passenger numbers will be strictly limited to enable everyone to be accommodated in spacious Cabin Suites.

Featuring a journey on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express from Venice to Krakow and Dresden, with two nights in each city before returning to London.

 

Day 1 : Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

Depart late afternoon from Venice Santa Lucia. Your steward welcomes you on board. Settle into your private Cabin Suite as the train travels through the Italian Dolomites and into Austria. Change for dinner and perhaps visit the bar car with its grand piano for an aperitif before enjoying a delicious dinner in one of the restaurant cars and overnight on board.

Day 2 : Krakow

Arrive this afternoon in Krakow, a city of artists and scholars, of grandeur and delightful eccentricities, where you stay for two nights at the Sheraton Hotel.

 

Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Krakow.

 

 

Day 3 : Krakow

Your time in the city is at leisure, although optional sightseeing can be arranged before or on arrival. Most major sights are easily accessed on foot and you can admire the dazzling architecture as you stroll the cobbled streets. This evening, enjoy a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wieliczka Salt Mine, described by an 18th-century visitor as no less magnificent than Egypt's pyramids, with its astonishing underground chapels, sculptures and gigantic chandeliers - all made from salt. Later, enjoy a traditional Polish feast.

Day 4 : Krakow and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

A morning at leisure before an afternoon excursion outside Krakow. Later, transfer to the station to rejoin the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express for dinner and a further night on board as the train travels towards Germany.

Day 5 : Dresden

Arrive mid-morning in Dresden, capital of Saxony. This magnificent baroque city is your home for two nights. On arrival, take a walking tour of the historical centre, including the Zwinger, once a setting for court festivities, before arriving at the Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Hotel, with sights such as the Semperoper and the extraordinary Green Vault right on your doorstep. Spend the evening at leisure.

 

Breakfast included. Overnight in Dresden.

 

 

Day 6 : Dresden

Your time in the city is free to spend as you wish, although optional sightseeing can be arranged. Enjoy an evening of local hospitality with your fellow travellers.

Day 7 : Dresden and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

After a morning at leisure, with the chance to explore some of the great museums and galleries close to your hotel, rejoin the train mid-afternoon for afternoon tea. This evening, enjoy a final farewell dinner and perhaps a nightcap in the bar car before retiring to your compartment.

 

Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight on board.

 

 

Day 8 : Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

The train arrives in Paris after breakfast and as you travel through Northern France to Calais a delicious brunch is served. Hostesses will escort you to coaches when you arrive at the Channel port for the journey to England via the Eurotunnel. On arrival in Folkestone, the British Pullman and afternoon tea await before reaching London around 5.30pm.

Cabin Suite : A Suite is made up of two interconnecting double cabins. At night, choose between single beds or keep one cabin as a lounge with upper and lower berths in the other cabin.
