An 8-day Danube Express Journey of discovery through the very heart of Europe to Istanbul on its eastern edge.
Days 1 - 2 : Budapest
Arrive in Budapest and stay two nights at the centrally situated Hotel Astoria (4-star).
Day 3 : Budapest & Vienna
Morning champagne reception in the Royal Waiting Room at Budapest Nyugati station; lunch on the way to Vienna for a city tour and a visit to Schönbrunn Palace; dinner on board.
Day 4 : Salzburg & Berchtesgaden
Morning arrival in Salzburg for a city tour; lunch before arrival in Berchtesgaden with free time to explore; dinner on board.
Day 5 : Frankfurt for Rhine Gorge Excursion
Depart Frankfurt mid-morning by local train on a scenic journey to Boppard. The train follows the river through the Rhine Gorge. Steep rock faces, terraced vineyards and fairytale castles appear and, as the river bends and the Gorge narrows, you will see The Loreley soaring 120 metres above the water. Arriving in Boppard, lunch is in a local restaurant overlooking the Rhine.
Later, there is free time to explore this quaint old town whose streets are lined with beautiful half-timbered buildings before returning to Frankfurt to re-join the Danube Express. Dinner is served as the train heads for the Czech Republic.
Day 6 : Karlštejn & Prague
Tour of Karlštejn Castle; lunch en route to Prague where there is a city tour; dinner on board.
Day 7 : Budapest
Budapest city tour, lunch in a local restaurant followed by free time; champagne reception at Nyugati station; dinner on board.
Day 8 : Sighişoara & Braşov
Walking tour of Sighişoara; lunch before arrival in Braşov for a visit to Bran Castle; dinner on board.
Day 9 : Veliko Turnovo & Kazanlak
Tour of Veliko Turnovo with free time; lunch en route to Kazanlak for a visit to a Thracian Tomb; dinner on board.
Day 10 : Istanbul
Morning arrival at Istanbul Sirkeci station where you leave the Danube Express.
