Danube Express - The Polish Explorer Tour

Warsaw to Budapest via Malbork, Gdańsk, Cracow, Wieliczka and Košice.

Capture the essence of Poland on a 4-day journey travelling from the Baltic to the Danube.

 

Day 1 : Warsaw

 

Arrive at Warsaw Wschodnia station late afternoon and step aboard the Danube Express. Your sleeping car attendant shows you to your compartment. Make yourself comfortable here or join fellow travellers in the Lounge car as the train heads north to Malbork

 

Day 2 : Malbork & Gdańsk

Morning sees arrival in Malbork, once a stronghold of Teutonic Knights. Visit the magnificent 13th Century castle, the world's largest brick built castle. Lunch en route to Gdańsk where a city tour includes the reconstructed Burgher houses and quaint harbour of the Old Town, St Mary's Church and the Neptune Fountain. Back on board the Danube Express, relax with a drink and dine as the train heads for Cracow.

 

Day 3 : Cracow & Wieliczka

 

Arrive in Cracow where a morning tour evokes a colourful past and includes Wawel Castle and the Old Town, the medieval Market Square and magnificent Cloth Hall. In St Mary's Church, see the elaborate ornamentation and gilded Gothic altarpiece by Veit Stoss.

 

After lunch in a local restaurant, travel by coach to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the world's oldest salt mines and operational from medieval times until the end of the 20th century. Re-join the Danube Express for dinner as it climbs through the spectacular Tatra Mountains and heads for Slovakia.

 

Day 4 : Bratislava & Budapest

 

Morning in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. A tour will include the Old Town and the stunning castle high on a hill overlooking the Danube. Lunch on board as the train passes through Slovakia then, after crossing into Hungary, follows the Danube with views of Visegrad castle. Arrive at Budapest Nyugati station for a farewell reception in the Royal Waiting Room.

 

 

 

This journey is also available in the opposite direction, travelling from Budapest to Warsaw.
