One of the grandest surviving structures from the 16th century, Burghley House is an outstanding example of the Elizabethan "prodigy" houses built to showcase the wealth and power of their owners. Designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, and built over 22 years from 1555 to 1587, it is a remarkable monument to ambition and vision.

Downton Abbey
Highclere Castle
Welcome to Highclere Castle, or, as many of you will know it, Downton Abbey. One of the most impressive English country houses of the late 19th century, designed by Charles Barry in the Jacobean style, set within a 5,000-acre estate with parkland designed by Capability Brown. The castle also served as the location for the beloved TV series Downton Abbey, and houses a fascinating Egyptian Exhibition relating to the 5th Earl of Carnarvon's famous discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb with Howard Carter.
Brunch with Bellini is served on your outward journey. On arrival at Highclere Castle you embark on a private guided tour, after which you have time to explore the enchanting gardens and gift shop at your own pace. Highclere Castle at Christmas
Welcome to Highclere Castle at Christmas, or, as many of you will know it, Downton Abbey.
The train departs London Victoria and heads west to Newbury, where coaches transfer you to one of England's grandest Victorian country houses. Designed by Sir Charles Barry, the architect of the Houses of Parliament, and set within 'Capability' Brown-designed parkland in rural Hampshire, Highclere Castle is the seat of the Earl of Carnarvon and one of the most recognisable houses in Britain. At Christmas, the castle is dressed in full festive splendour, with decorated rooms and seasonal displays throughout the state rooms and principal apartments.
A private guided tour takes you through the castle's magnificent interiors, including the saloon, the library and the dining room, with the opportunity to discover the celebrated Egyptian exhibition in the castle cellars, home to artefacts from the fifth Earl of Carnarvon's partnership with Howard Carter in the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. After your tour, coaches return you to Newbury and the waiting train, where a champagne reception greets you as you reboard. A three-course festive dinner with wine is served on the return journey to London Victoria.
