Rovos Rail
From two nights between Pretoria and Durban to sixteen nights across five countries, every Rovos Rail route with its stations, excursions and departure dates.
Rovos Rail run journeys of between two and sixteen nights across southern and eastern Africa, all of them on the same rebuilt vintage trains carrying a maximum of 72 guests in 36 suites. Every fare is fully inclusive: accommodation, all meals, all beverages on board, room service, limited laundry, the guided excursions in the itinerary and the entrance fees that go with them.
The short journeys run between Pretoria, Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Durban and are the ones most people start with. The long journeys are expeditions in their own right, reaching Tanzania, Namibia, Malawi and Angola, and they carry an on-board historian and a doctor. Rovos also combine their short and long routes at a five per cent discount.
Fares are published by Rovos Rail in South African Rand and US Dollars. We price in sterling once your dates and suite are confirmed, so every fare below reads as TBA. Call us on 0333 405 0192 and we will give you a confirmed price.
The journeys we have detailed pages for. Every other Rovos Rail route is listed further down and can be booked through us in the same way.

Two to four nights between Pretoria, Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Durban. These run frequently through the year and are the usual introduction to Rovos Rail.
The classic route and the one most people picture. Across the goldfields of the Witwatersrand to Kimberley and the Big Hole, then the Great Karoo, Victorian Matjiesfontein, the Hex River pass and the winelands into Cape Town.
The same route northbound, and a different journey for it. The climb up the Hex River pass through four tunnels comes over dinner on the first evening, Matjiesfontein on the second morning and Kimberley on the third.
North across the Tropic of Capricorn and the Limpopo into Zimbabwe, through baobab country and along 114 kilometres of dead straight track beside Hwange National Park, where an afternoon game drive is included.
Southbound from the Zambezi, with the Hwange game drive at six in the morning when the park is at its best, then the Limpopo crossing and the Soutpansberg mountains into South Africa.
The longer northbound route, adding a full afternoon in UNESCO-listed Matobo National Park: granite domes, San rock art and the grave of Cecil John Rhodes on the hill of benevolent spirits.
The fullest version of the route: a dawn game drive in Hwange, a guided morning among the granite hills of Matobo, and the long run south across the Limpopo into the Highveld.
The shortest Rovos Rail journey and the busiest. A Big Five game drive at Nambiti, an afternoon at Spionkop with a battlefield historian, Ardmore Ceramics and the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
The same safari northbound from the Indian Ocean, taking Ardmore Ceramics on the first afternoon and Spionkop and the Nambiti game drive on the second.
Expeditions of two weeks and more, with an on-board historian and a doctor travelling with the train. A small number of departures each year.
One of the great railway journeys of the world. 5,800 kilometres from Table Mountain to the Indian Ocean, with three days at Madikwe, a night at the Victoria Falls Hotel, the Tazara line and a game drive in Nyerere National Park.
The same crossing southbound, with Nyerere National Park on the second morning, Kundalila Falls on the watershed between two oceans, the Victoria Falls Hotel, Madikwe and the Karoo into Cape Town.
Rovos Rail link two of their short journeys into a single itinerary with a hotel stay in between, and take five per cent off the combined fare. Departures are limited, so these are worth planning early.
