The Golden Eagle Danube Express is a private train built for the great journeys of Central and Eastern Europe, carrying a small number of guests in comfort and style from the cities of the west to the crossroads of the Balkans and beyond.

Where an ordinary train takes you from one place to another, the Danube Express makes the travelling itself the pleasure. Handsome carriages of en-suite cabins are complemented by a restaurant serving cuisine inspired by the regions outside the window, and a bar lounge car where a pianist plays into the evening. There is a Tour Manager to look after the details, a doctor on board, and a cabin attendant assigned to you throughout, so that everything is taken care of and nothing needs organising.

Dining on Board

Meals aboard the Danube Express are one of the great pleasures of the journey, freshly prepared by the Executive Chef and his team and inspired by the local cuisine of each region the train passes through. All guests dine together in a single sitting with an open seating policy, so you can sit with whom you please. Breakfast is a generous buffet with cooked options to order, while lunch and dinner are fine-dining affairs paired with an excellent choice of wines from around the world. Inclusive drinks are served throughout.

The Bar Lounge Car

The bar lounge is the social heart of the train, and where much of the character of a Golden Eagle journey is found. A resident pianist plays each evening, and the bar stays open until the last guest retires. It is also where the day comes together: guest briefings, evening entertainment, the occasional language lesson and expert talks on the history and culture of the countries you are travelling through all take place here, over a drink and the passing view.

Service and Staff

The Danube Express is looked after by an experienced team whose job is to make sure you want for nothing from the moment you step on board.

Your Cabin Attendant

A cabin attendant is assigned to you throughout, preparing your cabin, turning down the bed each evening and attending to any request.

Tour Manager

An experienced Tour Manager travels with the group, providing daily itineraries, planning activities and smoothing every arrangement on and off the train.

Tour Doctor

A doctor travels on board throughout the journey, with medical facilities to hand should they ever be needed, for complete peace of mind.

Comfort and Facilities

Climate Control

Individually controlled air-conditioning and heating in every cabin, so your space is always exactly as you like it, whatever the weather outside.

Wi-Fi & Charging

Wi-Fi in the cabins, with power sockets and USB ports for charging. Signal can vary in remote areas as the train travels.

In-Cabin Comforts

A personal safe, adjustable lighting with dimmer switches and individual reading lights, wardrobe space, toiletries and a dressing gown.

A Relaxed Dress Code

Dress on board is informal and smart casual for the evenings, so you can travel in comfort. Some journeys include a gala or ball with its own dress code.

All-inclusive: fares on every Danube Express journey include all cabin accommodation, meals and inclusive drinks, off-train excursions with expert guides, transfers, gratuities and luggage porterage, plus the services of the Tour Management team and the on-board doctor.
